Engineering section during the month was exceedingly busy. Numerous war weary B-17s and B-24s were prepared for flight back to the United States. Answering calls for assistance, a number of crews of men were placed at engineering service at various satellite fields, primarily for sheet metal work. This type of service included engine changes out in the field alone. Many battle damaged heavy bombers were repaired and returned to combat.
