Hq & Hq Sq, 96th Service Group arrived on 5 June 1944, and
the 367th Service Squadron on 13 June.
On 28 June Lt Col Jahway, the Commanding Officer, was
transferred to Headquarters, XV Air Force Service Command and Lt Col Harold H. Kaufman was assigned and assumed command.
The rest camp which was established last month operated at capacity affording a rest period of five days to approximately six hundred men. The swimming pool on the base also afforded a means of recreation readily accessible to all personnel of the unit.
Supply activity maintained its pace during the month, the most acute problem being created by a shortage of auxiliary belly tanks for P-51 aircraft. To alleviate the shortage a modification project was set up for the purpose of utilizing existing stocks of tanks designed for other aircraft. This project was set up on an assembly line plan and operated twenty four hours per day.
Engineering was plagued in its work by the ever present enemy, dust. Efforts to control it took the form of oiling taxiways and roadways adjacent to the engineering shops. However, such efforts were not completely successful due to lack of oil and the large area requiring dust control.

Historical Artifacts: We are looking for photos, documents and other types of artifacts including uniforms and gear of the 15th Air Force in World War II as well as other units and commands. We accept electronic/scans or originals of pictures and paper records. A General Order could be an award document that contains information on many servicemen. Special Orders may contain transfers or other information. Flight records, accident reports, maintenance logs, after action reports, pilot encounter reports, diaries and biorgraphies; all of these types of documents help us support or mission: preserving your history! Contact us today for instructions on sending us this material.
