The month of March saw the expansion of Depot #53 by
leaps and bounds. Additional supplies flowed in and out at an increasing rate. In the Engineering Section much work was done. 6 battle damaged P-47s were in for repair. A-20s for nose turret modification, and a-20s for the tail assembly modification. The parachute shop was working on a 24 hour schedule fabricating curtains for B-24s whilt cannibalizing and additional equipment was received for the various engineering shops operating under the supervision of the Group Engineering Officer. Some Italian machinery has been installed in the machine shop and is being used to advantage. Although this machinery was originally calibrated on the metric system, it has been converted to AAF
standards. The photo section was set up and is now busily engaged in making a photographic record of the work being accomplished.
The work of rehabilitating the grounds and buildings of the
Depot is continuing, with much of the work being done by civilian labor.
