HEADQUARTERS 18TH AIR DEPOT GROUP, AIR CORPS APO 528
13 November 1943.
SUBJECT: Unit Operational History.
TO : Commanding General, Northwest African Air Service Command, APO 528. (THRU: Service Center No. 38, APO 528)
The unit continued during the month with the operation of Sub-Depot #1 at AFED #2. Some assistance was given by the assignment of a detachment of 150 men, 1 Officer and 1 Warrant Officer of 970th Ordnance Co. to duty in the Intransit Section of the Sub-Depot. However, these men were for the most part mechanics, and none trained in supply. While this detachment was being trained to do the work required, they were transferred and a detachment of 2 Officers and 70 men of 31st Depot Supply Squadron assigned. These men were of more value since they had supply experience. But after being here about two weeks, all were transferred with the exception of 18 men and 1 Officer.
The continual shifting of personnel in the Intransit Section has served to hamper its operation to a certain degree. Had it not been for the original group of men from this unit who have stayed on the job throughout the period work would have come to a complete standstill.
The unit's activities, which have been manifold by reason of its assignment, continue to be handicapped by shortage of Organization transportation. During the period we received one 1/4 Ton 4x4 truck, one 2½ Ton 6x6 truck and one 250 gallon water trailer.
A Chaplain was assigned, but was at the time of his assignment on Detached Service with 15th Air Depot Group, and has remained so. A Surgeon, a flight surgeon, was also assigned. These two officers replaced losses sustained during the previous month.
Strength at end of period: 19 officers and 148 men. One officer (Finance) and six men remain on Detached Service at Hq, XII Air Service Area Command.
For the Commanding Officer:
