CONSOLIDATED MISSION REPORT NO. 258. Period ending 2400 hours 15 Aug 1944

  1. 98TH BOMB GROUP. At 0220-0345, 18 B-24's took off to bomb besch 263b. 3 others crashed on takeoff. 18 over target at 0704-0730 hours at 15,800-17,000', dropped 6.0 tons of 100 lb GP bombs with inst fusing. 2 jettisoned and 13 returned bombs to base. 2 landed at Friendly Fields. 16 returned at 1040 hours. ROUTE: As briefed. RESULTS: Unobserved. E/A: None seen. FLAK: None experienced. PHOTOS: 6 a/c attempted.
  2. 376TH BOMB GROUP. At 0348 hours, 26 B-24's took off to bomb besch 263b. 1 other crashed on takeoff. 25 over target at 0705-0729 hours at 13,300-14,200'. 1st box: 1 dropped 5 tons of 100 lb GP bombs with inst fusing, 8 returned 16.5 tons to base, 3 jettisoned 4.0 tons. 2nd box: 13 dropped 25.5 tons, 2 returned 4.0 tons. 2 returned 4.0 tons to base, 25 returned at 1038 hours. ROUTE: As briefed. RESULTS: 1st box: Unobserved. 2nd box: Briefed aiming point well hit. Main impact in center of cultivated field. E/A: None seen. FLAK: S/H at target. PHOTOS: 12 a/c attempted. ESCORT: Escort seen.
  3. 449TH BOMB GROUP. At 0229 hours, 27 B-24's took off to bomb beach 263a. 1 other crashed on take off. 27 over target at 0705-0720 hours at 14,000-14,500'. 16 dropped 32.0 tons of 100 lb GP bombs with inst fusing. 1 jettisoned 2.0 tons. 10 returned bombs to base. 27 returned at 1042 hours. ROUTE: As briefed. RESULTS: Unobserved due to undercast. Some dust and smoke visible above low stratus clouds. E/A: None seen. FLAK: S/H at target. PHOTOS: 8 a/c attempted.
  4. 450TH BOMB GROUP. At 0229 hours, 28 B-24's took off to bomb beach 263a. 27 over target at 0708-0729 hours at 15,000', 21 dropping 38.9 tons of 100 lb GP bombs with inst fusing, 8 bombs. 7 a/c jettisoned or returned bombs. 1 landed at Friendly Fields. 26 returned at 1030-1045 hours. ROUTE: As briefed except for slight change at IP; turn made wide resulting in long axis of bomb run. RESULTS: 1st box: Mediocre. 7 bombed visually, 7 by PFF. 2nd box: Of 7 a/c that dropped, results were unobserved; bombed visually. E/A: None seen. FLAK: "H" at target. PHOTOS: 7 a/c attempted.
  5. WEATHER. Target: 8-10/10 undercast between 2000' and 8000'. En route: CAPU to CORSICA. Scattered cumulus from CORSICA to target.
