ESCAPE STATEMENT                                        10 November 1943.

T/Sgt. Carl L. Valentine, 14052008, 376 B.G., 514th Bomb Squadron.

  1. Personal History:

Duty:  Radio operator-gunner.

Age:    21.

Missions:  27.

Returned to Duty:  20 October 1943.

  1. Details of Capture:

Shot down over Bari by fighters and AA, 16 July 1943.  Upon bail out signal, escapee jumped and was taken to a hospital upon landing.

  1. Enemy Interrogation:

Interrogated by Italian Officers at Bari and at Poggio Mirterte.  Inquiries were made on airbases, routes, units, etc.  Security training was exercised.

  1. Escape aids: 

No escape aids on person when he bailed out.

  1. Interrogator’s Comments:

Escapee apparently exercised security training and S-2 lectures on escape.
