72 P-38’s and 46 P-51’s successfully strafed BUZAU and ZILISTEA and 3 other nearby landing grounds, then proceeded on to Russian bases.

6. FIGHTER SWEEP OF PLOESTI-BUCHAREST AREAS: 55 P-38’s of 14 and 82 Fighter Groups and 47 P-51’s of 31 Fighter Group were dispatched from Russian bases. 4 P-38’s returned early.

51 P-38’s and 47 P-51’s swept the assigned targets with several encounters in the area East of PLOESTI. Two Ju 52’s near BUZAU were chased to the deck and destroyed, 13 Me 109’s near FOCSANI were attacked and six destroyed, 2 damaged. 45 Me 109’s, FW 190’s, Me 410’s and some other twin engine aircraft were attacked East of BUCHAREST.

9. MIELEC AIRDROME (5020N-2130E), 25 JULY: 39 P-38’s and 39 P-51’s of 306 Wing were dispatched from Russian bases on a strafing mission. 6 P-38’s and 5 P-51’s returned early.
RESULTS: Aircraft claimed on the ground at MIELEC A/D were 9-7-2. Other results from the strafe are 4 locomotives, 13 M/T, 2 busses, and 1 staff car destroyed; 1 M/T probably destroyed, and 2 M/T damaged. Claims from air combat were 29-5-7.
TOTAL CLAIMS: 38-12-9 LOSSES: Nil
