BAD VÖSLAU AIRFIELD - AIRFIELD AND A/C FACTORY
This G.A.F. station which contains considerable production facilities is believed to have been taken over by Wiener Neustadter Flugzeugwerk and may now be in use as an assembly point for FW 190's, following the heavy damage to assembly facilities at Wiener Neustadt in February 1944. The appearance of FW 190's here lends some weight to this probability. The facilities available at this time are sufficient to assemble 100 fighters per month, and if flight hangars were also used, this figure could be doubled.
This plant is located on the western side of the main road from Vienna to Wiener Neustadt, approximately 17 miles south of the center of Vienna and 10 miles north of Wiener Neustadt. Geographical coordinates: 47 degrees 58 minutes North by 16 degrees 16 minutes East.
The hangars on this airdrome are arranged in a single "L" shape which measures about 2300' overall. There are four hangars in the southern portion of the "L", facing the airdrome, which are of identical size and are believed to be used for assembly. One far smaller building could be used for this purpose or storage. There is also a twin-bay hangar similar to that frequently seen at German aircraft factories.
The four identical hangars which are believed to be used for assembly of fighter aircraft are all building nos. 1-4. All building and hangers have been painted with dark paint in an effort to blend with the countryside, but the installations were still plainly visible from the air on 8 February 1944.
Anticipated results of a successful raid:
Each of the assembly hangars at Bad Vöslau may contain 10 aircraft; The four would have 40, if the repair shop and flight hangars were used for assembly, this number could possibly be doubled. There is also a possibility that Messerschmitt 109's would come to be overhauled and repaired, or that the Wiener Neustadter people would be forced to flee here already jammed, and would suffer further organizational troubles.
