FLORIDSDORF, VIENNA, AUSTRIA - AIRCRAFT COMPONENTS FACTORY
Since the highly successful attack of 2 November 1943 on Werft I and II of the Wiener Neustadter Flugzeugwerke Complex at Wiener Neustadt near Vienna, this aircraft components factory has assumed a position of highest importance as a transit and repair factory for the ME-109 G-6 Fighter and as an assembly plant for at least one other major manufacturer. This plant and the Henschel plant are believed to produce a total number of 150 wings and possibly other smaller components as well.
The plant is located in the Northern outskirts of the village of Floridsdorf and lies 13 miles NE of the center of Vienna and approximately 11 miles South of the main course of the Danube which here flows NW to SE. The outstanding landmark of the Schneider Factory and airfield is found some 3 miles west of the target area. Despite the lack of outstanding features the factory is relatively easy to pick up, due to the fact that a round reservoir lies almost immediately adjacent to, and on the western side of the target area tends to obscure its position and extent. Geographical coordinates are 48 degrees 17 minutes North by 16 degrees 27 minutes East.
Principal objectives are the 2 large warehouses and the boiler house which is located at the extreme southern boundary of the plant. Destruction of this plant would add to the heavy damage already done to the plants at Wiener Neustadt and Fischamend and heavily blow to German fighter production at a time which is vitally important to the outcome of operations with little fear of civil damage.
